NEC phone systems

NEC was originally known as Nippon Electric Company, and was established in Japan in 1899 as a joint venture with Western Electric Company, the manufacturing arm of AT&T. "Nippon" is a Japanese word for "Japan;" and just as Western Electric was the main supplier to AT&T, Nippon Electric was the main supplier to NT&T, the Japanese national phone company. NEC employs more than 150,000 people worldwide, and has annual sales of more than $40 billion. The company produces a wide range of products, and has been a major supplier of business phone systems in the US since the 1980s.
