The only bad news, is that you can't mix old phones and new phones in the same system.

No central control unit ("KSU") is required -- everything needed is built into the phone. No special training or tools are required, and you may be able to use the wire already in your walls. You can use either loop-through or home-run wiring. For four lines, you will need two "RJ14" jacks near each phone.
