Connecting Locally
Configuration and programming facilities are available when connected locally to
the system.
In order to gain access to these facilities, your PC must be connected to your
3000 or EncoreCX system.
A local connection is established by connecting the programming port in the
control unit, to the serial port on the PC using the "V24" cable supplied
with your system. The cable has a DB9 serial connector on one end, and a
modular phone plug one the other end.
Using a slotted screwdriver, open the hinged cover on the system (the cover
with the logo) by making a quarter turn with the screwdriver.
Inside the cover is a label which shows the connectors on the system.
Plug the phone plug end of the programming cable into the connector marked
"V24-1."
Plug the other end of the cable (the 9-pin serial connector) into a PC serial
port..
The port settings are auto-negotiated to 115.2 kb/s, 8, N, 1.
Port settings can be determined using system-wide programming.
Start the Maintenance and Programming Software, and select the Connect
option and highlight the V24 option.
Use the default port speed settings or set the V.24 port
baud rate to match the baud rate set on the system and select "Connect."
Connecting Remotely
Call a phone number connected to the 3000 or EncoreCX and ask someone to dial R721,
which switches the system into remote maintenance mode.
Then instruct the person to hang up.
Then connect to the control unit via modem.
Enter the phone number of the target system and select the connect option (the
system is now dialed into).
During the next five minutes, all incoming calls to the target system are
automatically answered and modem tone detection is initiated.
When a modem tone is detected, the call is accepted as a maintenance call. All
subsequent calls are then answered as normal calls.
If an ordinary telephone call is received before the maintenance call is
detected, the caller gets a courtesy message.
If no maintenance call is received within the five-minute period, the system
reverts to normal operation.
