Installing circuit cards in a Panasonic KX-TDA50

Installing circuit cards in a Panasonic KX-TDA50
(1) Circuit modules ("cards") are available to provide capacity for additional lines or phones, and for features. They are made in different physical sizes, generally with either four or eight jacks. Open the top of the KX-TDA50 cabinet and find the locations where you will install the modules, and pop out the blank plastic filler plates from the front panel. You will probably need a wire cutter ("dikes') or a knife. Be careful.

(2) There are three sections for installing the modules. The left section is for special feature modules, such as door intercom, echo cancellation, and Caller Id for single-line phones.

(3) The center section is for four-port cards of various types. The KX-TDA50G comes with two cards pre-installed. The one at the bottom is for four phones or accessories, such as a voice procesor system. The module above it is for four analog phone company Central Office lines. There are positions above that module for two more modules. Modules are installed by attaching them to the module below with screw-on posts, as well as electrical connectors. The jacks fit into the openings in the front panel.

(4) The right-hand section of the KX-TDA50G has spaces for up to three eight-port modules of various types.

(5) The sequence of modules in each "stack" does not matter.

(6) Module installation should be done with the power cord unplugged.

(7) After the modules are installed, close up the cabinet. Plug in the power cord, make sure the SD card is installed, turn on the power and initialize the system so it recognizes which cards you have installed.

(8) At the lower right of the cabinet, below the section for the eight-port modules, is a slide switch. Move it to "INITIALIZE." Use a paper clip to press the recessed "RESET" button. The green "run" light on the cabinet door should flash. Then move the switch to "NORMAL." After a few minutes, the "run" light should be steady.
