Connecting the NEC DS1000

- All wiring connects to the NEC DS1000
behind the slide-out cover on the cabinet.
- There are six 6-wire ("RJ25" type)
modular jacks at the upper right corner, used for connecting
phone lines, door intercoms, door openers, music, and a
paging amplifier.
- There is a 25-pair male
"Amphenol"-type connector below the modular jacks for
connecting the wires going to your phones.
- We STRONGLY recommend that you
install surge protectors for the AC power line, and each
phone line.
- The connections for lines
(NEC calls them "trunks") and phones ("extensions") are
shown below:
- This page is just for
basic information. PLEASE read the manuals that come with
your system.

| 25-Pair
Connections |
 |
|
- Below the six modular jacks, is a
25-pair male "Amphenol" connector, used for connecting the wires
going to your phones.
- You will need a 66-type punch-down
block with an attached 25-pair cable and female connector, or a
patch panel.
- The first 32 rows are used for 16
multi-line digital phones. One pair of wires is used for each phone.
The DS1000 supports just 16 digital phones, unless you install the
optional 80221 expansion module.
- Rows 33 through 48 are used for 8
single-line analog phones or devices, such as faxes or credit card
terminals. One pair of wires is used for each phone. The DS1000
supports just 8 analog phones, unless you install the optional 80221
expansion module.
- Rows 49 and 50 are not used.
- Your phones' intercom numbers start
with 300, and can be changed. Normally, 300 through 315 are
multi-line digital phones, and 316 through 323 are single-line
analog phones and devices.
