RCA says the cordless handsets used with their new 25450RE3 4-line phone system can be used up to about 2000 feet from the base -- nearly the length of seven football fields put together. Range is not as great as the EnGenius DuraFon 4X, and the handsets are not as rugged; but the RCA has voicemail and costs less.

But even if you don't need to take long walks with your phone, and your office or home is not as big as Buckingham Palace, it has a lot to offer you.

• The corded base is packaged with one cordless handset, and you can add up to 15 more, for a total of 17 phones working on up to four lines.
• Installation is extremely easy. For use with four phone lines, you'll need two two-line jacks ("RJ14C") near the base phone. The cordless handsets need electrical power for their charging cradles, but no phone jacks.
